Why Do People Invest?
People invest because they hope their money will grow over time or produce income.
Why invest at all?
📈 Growing wealth
An investment may increase in value over time.
💵 Producing income
Some investments may pay income, such as dividends or rent.
🎯 Long-term goals
People may invest for goals many years away, like retirement.
Investing can make money. Investing can also lose money.
Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Investing is often long-term
People often leave investments alone for many years, giving them time to potentially grow rather than checking on them constantly.
Prices can rise over time
Prices for things people buy can rise over time — this is one reason people may want their own money to grow too, rather than simply staying the same amount. We'll cover this idea, called inflation, properly in a later lesson.
Cash vs invested
This is the trade-off between staying the same and taking on some risk for potential growth.
Why invest money you don't need right now?
Why might someone choose to invest money they don't need right now — future growth, income, long-term goals, or something else?
All of these are real reasons people invest. There's no single correct answer — different goals lead different people to invest for different reasons.
Avoid presenting investing as a way to get rich quickly. Emphasise patience and long-term thinking instead.
